doubt is a full time occupation
—
we already know more than we say.
we know everything,
& then we wake up.
it’s as if we’ve forced ourselves
to set sail in a boat
painted with the seven
demons of love & fall asleep.
but our left hand reaches out
or maybe slips
& touches water.
we tremble with exhaustion.
it’s easier for our voices
to drift up at the end of words
before we stop speaking,
easier to watch cat’s paws of wind
visible across leaves & water
come at us & not run.
let it come.
let us question our hearts.
